In the fall of 2007, Kim and Peter Aleman's daughters, Jessica and Caitlin along with their college friend, Meighan, embarked on a relief mission to Africa. The Aleman's enjoyed helping them raise the funds and prepare. Since the kids would be gone over Christmas, the Aleman's decided to take the opportunity and spend two weeks visiting them in South Africa, bringing presents and visiting orphanages.
After the holiday, Peter returned home while Kim stayed and the four women traveled to Malawi to work at another orphanage. Based on this enlightening expereince, the Aleman family decided to dedicate a lot of effort to raise funds and awareness for the situation many faced in Africa - especially the loss and grief caused by AIDS.
Kim and Peter had two things that were indescribable for them:
- The contrast between the rich and the poor
- How LITTLE it took to make a BIG difference in the lives of the kids who have lost one parent (or usually both) to AIDS
Therefore, Bio-Gro, Inc. began the project called '2 Cents for Africa.' Bio-Gro, Inc. takes 2 cents for every gallon of their main products and invests it in programs that serve African children and families.
